GEORGIOUPOLIS
Georgioupolis lies in a Gulf and the village is built in a green natural environment, 35 km. from Xania and 22 km from Rethymno. It is a village which offers to the visitor a lot of choice in leisure and fun: restaurants, coffebars, shops.
It also has got: supermarkets, hotels, pharmacy, rent a car, police station. It is well known for its beautiful natural environment among mountains, seashore, rivers and for the lake of Kurna. Beside the quick touristic development of the region, the village has kept its natural quality.
The beach in Georgioupoli is of fine and soft sand and it is about 10 km long, making it one of the finest and cleanest in Krete. The zone is a protected one as far as its "flora & fauna" are concerned. Within a few km you will be able to visit the only natural lake of Kurna in Krete.
VAMOS
Vamos is a traditional small village which has kept its identity and appearance through the centuries. In fact the houses have been restored with particular attention and the village is object of study among Architecture Students. Visitors are always surprised to visit this village which has remained as it was in the old times.
It is a pleasure to walk in the narrow streets with stone pavement and look at the houses restored in full respect of tradition and good taste. During the summer there take places many exhibitions promoting the traditional handcraft of the region.
You will find there small shops selling everything you need, bakery, pharmacy, health center, police station, many little cafes and taverns.
VRISSES
Vrisses is a village at about 30 km from Xania and it is an important knot on the main street Xania – Rethymno - Heraklio. It has about 635 inhabitant who take care of their olive trees, vineyards and animal breeding. Being an important communication spot between the western and the eastern parts of the island, it gets a lot of visitors.
In the village you can find High school, police station, medical doctor, veterinary office, Office of the electric company (Dei) ,Hotel, pharmacy, supermarket and again a lot of shops, cafés and restaurants. The name of the village comes from the many water springs and running waters there around.
The village is built in the middle of a beautiful green valley, on the sides of the river Boutaka, which flows between the village Embrosnero and Vafe. The magic beauty of the place, the plenty of water, springs and brooks, make this village one of the most beautiful in the surroundings.
